What a Wonderful Week!!!

Hello Everyone,

Today, is marking the end of Week 6 of Emerging Technologies Group - what a week its been. Amanda has given us Week 6 and Week 7 to "catch up and explore". Some "Drop-In Sessions" were established led by the team leaders. This is for the benefit of the staff who are learning so we can drop-in and have our questions answered and continue to be encouraged to try out and use all the new tools. I had the good fortune to attend Tuesday's session and it just so happened that Alex my team leader was there. He was wonderful! I basically had a one on one tutorial with him. It was great. I needed to have my work checked from lesson one through to lesson 5. He reassured me that I was doing just fine and not to get stressed out about it. The activities aren't supposed to make us "anxious". He explained "Wikis" a little better and encouraged me to try Wetpaint instead of PBWiki which was more difficult - I will, but not today. My confidence was elevated after that and thank you very much for having those sessions. On Wednesday I attended Krista's intro to Second Life. It was very interesting. I did get a basic membership and I am "Huron Halasy". I am very frustrated however, because I only get to move a little before my computer crashes - oh well, I'll try later. Thanks again for a wonderful week.

Cats are del.icio.us

Hello Again, its me! This weeks lesson in Week 5 of "Learning 2.0 @Mac:Weekly Activities " is "Tagging". In my 1st activity I had to compare del.icio.us and google after researching one of my favourite topics - cats. As far as I can see (which isn't very far because of my very teeny tiny eyes) del.icio.us is a very informal, very personal and really cute website. People have created their own tags and are sharing them with others on their favourite topic. Google on the other hand has many hits and they are more formal, researched and lead you to other links. They are both good but serve slightly different purposes. Thats all I have to say for now.

PBWiki Experience

Hi there again - I've just created a "wiki". A PBwiki for that matter. I did not, however, write about my favourite books like the others did. I wrote about something else. The instructions as usually were very good. When its your first time doing something the process is slow and arduous. I did create it as I did follow the given instructions. I can't really write about the difference between the two wikis, since I only created the one wiki. I will try creating the second one in Week 6 of our activities when I get a chance to "catch-up" and get comfortable with what I've learned so far.

Thanks,
G.P.

My first 3 lessons

I'm really pleased with myself for having completed Week 1 and Week 2 activities ie. reading the introduction to all the activities we will be undertaking, setting up my very own "Blog" and writing something a little silly and Week 3 setting up an account on" Bloglines". I was very apprehensive at first, but I'm finding the instructions very clear and easy to follow. I screwed up with my first assignment, because I forgot my password to my Blog and therefore had to create a new one (great experience). I'll be more careful in the future with writing things down. Week 3's assignment was a little challenging for me because I didn't understand why I would need RSS. (Alex, my group leader was a big help.) I've subscribed to a couple of "feeds" and I feel I've accomplished something. I feel good about what I'm doing. Thank you for creating these exercises. Talk to you soon!
